How much space should sit between frames?
Two to three inches is the honest answer — but the reason why matters more than the number.

Start with two to three inches
Most gallery walls read best with 2–3 inches (5–8 cm) between frames. Closer than that and the wall looks nervous; wider and the frames stop reading as one piece and start looking like separate decisions.
Keep the gap the same everywhere
The single biggest difference between a wall that looks designed and one that looks improvised is a consistent gap. Not equal margins around the outside — an equal gap between neighbours.
- Small frames, small room: 2 inches
- Mixed sizes: 2.5 inches is forgiving
- Large statement frames: 3 inches or more
Hang the centre at eye level
Treat the whole arrangement as one picture. Its centre should land about 57–60 inches from the floor. Above a sofa, leave 6–8 inches between the top of the sofa back and the bottom frame.
If the arrangement feels like it is floating away from the furniture, it usually is. Lower it an inch and look again.
