Hallways are the easiest place to start
Narrow, unloved and rarely furnished — a corridor is the most forgiving wall in the house.

Why a hallway works
There is no sofa to align to, no television competing for attention, and nobody stands far enough back to notice a quarter inch of drift. It is the friendliest wall in the house for a first attempt.
Run with the walk
In a corridor people move past the wall rather than stand in front of it. A long horizontal run — one or two rows at eye level — reads better than a tall cluster.
Watch the light
Hallways are often dark. Choose photographs with strong contrast; subtle, low-contrast images disappear.
- Keep frame sizes small to medium so the corridor does not feel narrower
- Leave a clear margin at each end of the run
- Avoid glass at shoulder height on very tight corridors
