How high to hang a gallery wall
Put the centre of the group at 57–60 inches from the floor — here is how to measure it, and when to change it.

Short answer: hang the gallery wall so the centre of the whole group sits 57–60 inches (145–152 cm) from the floor — roughly eye level.
Measure the group, not one frame
Treat every frame together as one big rectangle. Find its centre, then place that centre at 57–60 in.
A measured example
Your group is 38 in wide and 30 in tall:
- Centre height target: 58 in
- Half the group height: 15 in
- Top edge of the group: 58 + 15 = 73 in from the floor
- Bottom edge: 58 − 15 = 43 in from the floor
When to change the rule
- Above furniture: leave 8–10 in (20–25 cm) between the furniture top and the lowest frame, even if that lowers the centre.
- Staircases: keep the centre about 57–60 in above each step's front edge, so the group climbs with the stairs.
- Seated rooms (dining, office): go a few inches lower so the photos are at seated eye level.
